The Over / Under

The stigma of being overdressed, and the pain of showing up underdressed.

Remember when people used to get dressed up for a flight? In the early days of commercial  air travel, flights were considered a glamorous affair. American’s treated an  airplane like a nightclub 30 thousand feet in the air. Most flights came equipped with coach lounges located in the lower decks, complete with piano bar and lounge style seating.

However, in the 1970’s the culture of putting on a nice suit for a flight started to disappear. It may have had something to do with a shift in culture, or the Airline Deregulation Act which grew competition and lowered air travel costs. Regardless of the reason, the glamor of air travel is now reserved for nostalgic scenes in film and television. Catch a flight in this day and age, and you’re gonna find a 757 full of sweatpants and old t-shirts. It looks less like a flight and more like a sleepover. The sad truth is, we live in an undressed world.

We know you’re different though, because you went out of your way to buy a designer blazer from Maceoo. You’re the kind of guy who doesn’t have “overdressed” in their vocabulary. You wear what you like, and look good doing it. We think someone as sharp and well dressed as you can breathe new life into the glamor of air travel. Wearing a suit on a flight is not just an exercise in vanity, it’ll save you money and provide you more space in your luggage to maximize efficiency. Suits are bulky and take up room, but wearing a full suit will save you nearly a full carry on worth of space. Let’s not forget that you have a much better chance of getting to know a cute flight attendant in a quality blazer from Maceoo, than your old sweatpants and fraternity shirt.

You can’t just wear any suit on a flight. Most suits are stuffy, uncomfortable, and don’t breathe. Combine that with an uncomfortable middle seat on a packed flight, and that’s a recipe for disaster. A Maceoo suit is your perfect tool for your one man mission to bring back the glamor of air travel. Maceoo suits are engineered to move with you and are made to be breathable, especially if you pair one of our fine suits with a quality dress shirt.

So we’ve covered being overdressed, now let’s have a quick chat about being underdressed. A good piece of advice is; it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear a nice pair of joggers (check out our line of athletic fit shorts) or your favorite jersey. In fact, our favorite excuse to be underdressed is coming up; July 4th.

Nothing will ruin a pool party faster than boxy swim shorts that make you look and feel uncomfortable. That or maybe someone getting too drunk and jumping in the pool naked. A July 4th BBQ is a fantastic place to show off your designer swimwear and designer t-shirts. It’s a perfect opportunity to show off how versatile your wardrobe is (because you shop at Maceoo).

Whether you’re under or overdressed, Maceoo is here to make sure that you look and feel good. That’s why all our products are made with high quality materials that will last a lifetime.
