Sometimes you see a car that takes your breath away. Hopefully it’s sitting in your garage right now.
What makes a car beautiful? Considering our history with engineering, we think that’s a good question. A car is really just a method of transportation, but what elevates a utility into something that radiates beauty like a classic American muscle car or a powerful European sports car? We think it’s the lines, and we also think there’s an obvious connection with this automotive design concept and your wardrobe.
What do we even mean when we say a line on a car? There’s the “bone line” –
which is what designers refer to when talking about the hard, almost sharp line that runs across the profile of most modern cars, and should not to be confused with the “belt line,” which is represented by the junction of the upper glass area and lower bodywork. Modern car designs are filled with lines that give cars an aggressive, sporty look. Overdoing it however can cheapen this design tactic, giving a car an out of touch futuristic look that comes off as unattractive.
It’s about balance.
A well placed line, without overdoing it, can give a car an aggressive, sharp, and fast design. The golden age of American muscle cars is a perfect showcase of this approach.
What does that have to do with clothes? Well, first off we think everything we just said about lines can apply to what you wear. If you wear a designer patterned dress shirt that offers the right amount of vertical lines, it can offer a slimming look that elongates your torso and gives off a tailored look. Overdue the lines, and your outfit can become unnatural and jarring. Once again, it’s all about balance.
It doesn’t just end at the design of a fabric, the cut and fit of a garment also contribute to lines in fashion. If you wear something boxy and ill fitting, you’ll be covered in unnatural lines made from your fabric folding over itself. You won’t do your build any favors, and you will end up feeling and looking miserable. It’s the main reason all Maceoo clothes are engineered to have a tailored look, every time. Take our Maceoo designer shorts for example, they are perfectly tapered to elongate the leg, while maintaining a modern slim profile.
